MY GREAT GRANDFATHER
by Ji yang
When I heard about the topic of this journal, I immediately thought of my great grandfather's activities during the Japanese colonial period in Korea. I know it was a sad part of the history of Korea. I want to be proud of my great grandfather, who had tried to protect Korea, against the reign of the Japanese. I'm going to introduce my great grandfather. If you weren't interested in Korean history until now, you might change your mind after my presentation.
We called people like that patriots, people like my great grandfather. I already spoke about in the first paragraph of my journal. You might have guessed my great grandfather's job. It is hinted that he had devoted himself to Korea without compensation. He hadn't become famous like as Kane-Soon Yu. He name is known by the local people of his region. The March First Movement result in the death of thousand of people. We still do not know the names of all the dead.
When I was a child, I heard about great grandfather's story from my grandfather in Hong-chun. It was such a fantastic story for me. I thought that this story might have been fictional. After The March First Movement was caused in Seoul, he did the movement in kang won do, Hong-chun. Because he was encouraged by Seoul movement.
We know the Gandhi. Why he is famous in the world? This is reason, "He practiced nonvoilence struggle." The March First movement was also nonvoilence struggle. So It have contained huge historic meaning. My great grandfather kept the movement until he was died. Finally he was died by the Japanese.
We don't have a lot of materials about my great grandfather. So I was more wondered that "How about my great grandfather's personality?" Recently, my grandfather have invested his property in order to inform about my great grandfather in the world.
"If you have a chance to go Kang won do, you should visit to Hong chun." If you'll be a lucky person, you'll listened to interesting story by my grandfather.
We already know that Korea was oppressed by the other country throughout the recorded history. So many countries might have not considered the suffering of Koreans. In my opinion, the Koreas had a strong mental convictions, even though their power as a nation was weak. I thought again about strengths of the Korean people and their determination and strength of will.
I would like to suggest that after you finish the reading a my journal and listening to my presentation that you might think more about the heroes in your country. If you understand the heroe's mind clearly then maybe you could become a heroe yourself.
